He appears to be\nself-taught dowser, with a \u201cnatural\u201d dowsing ability, or sensitivity which\nextended to the ability to \u201cfeel\u201d the presence of what he searched for. He was\nseeking a theory to account for his experiences, but that alluded him. However,\nsome of his personal observations are of interest. For instance, he was able to\nfeel \u201cbelts\u201d of influence adjacent to underground streams. This I take to mean\nthat he could feel the presence of the so-called \u201cparallels\u201d running next to\nstreams. He could also \u201cfeel\u201d underground water down to 2000 feet.&nbsp; He primary observation was that he could\ndirect his attention to whatever he sought thereby filtering out all other\ninfluences. This he was able to distinguish between multiple streams which\nmight lie under each other. Using his directed consciousness, he seems to be\none of the first dowsers to have developed a countdown method of depthing\nunderground streams. A method quite common today. Practice and familiarity with\nenvironment he was working in seemed to be both important. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA water divining theory\u201d by Rev. H. W.
